| The global focus on the environment and consequently energy usage has forced many companies to make environmental stewardship a high priority. Coming regulations will require companies and individuals not only reduce energy consumption but also adjust energy usage based on grid load.
During a peak load event users may be charged a premium for the power they consume. To reduce the impact of these events an automatic load shedding system will be required. In a residence such a system could turn-off outside plugs, turn-off/reduce air conditioning, stop pumps, dim or turn off lights.
In commercial or industrial facilities load shedding could also be used to turn off or regulate non-critical systems and equipment.
